The Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic (the DR) is a great Spring break destination for college students for two major reasons. First, the weather is warm and alcohol is plentiful. Second, there are a plethora of all-inclusive resorts, in other words, food, alcohol, amenities, and general accommodations.

Even though warm weather and flowing alcohol usually can entice any and all college students, the DR has so much more to offer. Banana boating, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, and overall sightseeing are only five of the thousands of exciting activities that one can find in the DR. On the days where you don’t feel like being as adventurous, you can lay by the pool or the beach which drinking a pina colada!

The Bahamas

There are two great places to stay in the Bahamas that are fun for college students: The Atlantis Resort and Casino and the Baha Mar. Even though these resorts aren’t all-inclusive, if you go with a group of people you are bound to get a pretty good bang-for-your-buck. In addition, if you need the extra cash, you can just hit the large Vegas-style casinos that make this place so popular.

The Bahamas, in general, offers the same general beach-style activities that the DR has, but they also have awesome dolphin experiences and you can embrace your inner Victoria’s Secret angel and swim with the pigs at pig beach in Exuma. Lastly, everything in the Bahamas, everything is 18+, so you can go to clubs, gamble, and drink without feeling like you need to hide it.

Switzerland, Europe

Switzerland is an unreal place to ski, site-see, and eat. Whether you’re in the mood for fondue, skydiving, or skiing, you can do it all in an exciting, and sometimes chilly, environment, so be sure to pack your parka! The Swiss Alps are breathtaking. Even though I myself have never been to Switzerland, many of my friends visited there while studying abroad and loved it.

Flights to Europe can be decently priced and, in order to save money for food, shopping, and site-seeing, choose to stay in a hostel rather than a hotel. When booking your flight, try to find a flight that has multiple stops because those are usually the cheapest. If you don’t want to stay only in Switzerland, you can opt for trains and cheap flights to travel around the rest of Europe.

Washington, D.C.

If you are itching for some unreal site-seeing, great food, fantastic shopping, and great people watching, definitely plan a trip to D.C. Even though D.C. is not the cheapest place to visit, you can stay in Bethesda, Maryland, which is a city that is only a 10-15-minute ride from D.C. You can definitely find a more affordable hotel and the metro runs each and every day from Bethesda to D.C. and back. Whether you want to be super touristy and take a Segway tour, go shopping on M Street, or take a boat ride in the Potomac River, D.C. truly has it all (and I’m not just saying this because I live here).

Even though there are amazing places out there to travel, everyone can use a little extra help when planning a trip. In order to ensure that you are getting the best deals and are eating at the yummiest restaurants, seeing the best sights, staying at safe hotels/hostels, and just overall to ensure that you are getting a better bang for your buck, be sure to check out some of these amazing websites. Even though I do know what I’m talking about, it’s also important to be humble and realize that some websites can help you more than I can. Here are some of the most reliable and easiest to use websites to check out while planning a college Spring break vacation:

  • Trip Advisor
  • Airbnb
  • Hotel Tonight
  • Expedia
  • Yelp
  • Open Table
  • Orbitz
  • Kayak
  • Trivago
  • Travelocity

If you are trying to do the more typical party-filled college Spring break, be sure to check out JusCollege and XTreme trips. I’ve used both of these websites and everything was planned and all-inclusive in the price that you pay (this even includes the airfare). They even give you the options to either pay everything up front or do a payment plan, which buys you some time to pay for the trip! Happy and safe travels to all of my readers!
